This design depicts one of Japan’s most legendary tales of loyalty. 

While Benkei held the gate against overwhelming odds, his lord, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, chose an honourable death. 

In a flash of lightning, a white dragon soared into the heavens from the Koromogawa River—the spirit of Yoshitsune ascending. 

Moments later, Benkei was pierced by countless arrows, yet died standing, his unwavering devotion becoming immortal in Japanese legend.
